In September, she posted about how they made guitar hooks for their music room. I LOVE that they have a music room -- I played the piano as a kid and I dream about having a music room in my house one day. Clinton grew up playing classical violin, but is much more likely to play his guitar, mandolin, or ukulele these days, meaning that these are often lying around, waiting to be knocked over or sat on. But not anymore!
We made our own guitar hooks, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out!
Jenny used round wooden plaques, but I couldn't find any round ones at my craft store. I'm sure I could have looked online, but I get a very one-track-mind when I'm doing a project, so I went ahead with the rectangles. These have actually grown on me - I like how they sort of mirror the rectangular necks of the instruments.
Next time, I think we would only use 2 screws - since the hook has a screw in the back, that's extra anchoring, and I really don't think we needed the extra two screws. I'd also love to follow Jenny's idea and paint the plaques more of the wall color, but since the hooks were a blue-ish gray, I matched the plaque color to those. I'm not sure if you could paint the rubber dipped ends and have the paint not rub off on the instruments.
I love it! I think they look so neat on the wall, and they're in no danger of being knocked over. The rubber on the hooks fits perfectly around the necks, so it feels like a very secure hold. We've had people over a few times since we put them up, and I don't think anyone has even come close to bumping into them. I'd consider it a success!
